Essex-Newark Legal Services (ENLS) is a nonprofit organization that offers civil legal assistance at no cost to low-income residents of the Essex County, New Jersey area. ENLS's service area consists of the whole of Essex County, including Newark, East Orange, Orange and Irvington. Their mission is to provide low-income residents with access to justice through practical legal assistance that promotes client and community empowerment. Their Re-Entry Opportunity Project assists clients get their criminal records expunged and other hurdles to employment removed. Essex-Newark Legal Services does not give out legal advice but can advise individuals about organizations where they may be able to get the assistance they need. Individuals and families experiencing homelessness may also receive referrals to safety net programs in the area. Additionally, ENLS collaborates with community-based organizations in Essex County to educate residents on critical legal problems affecting their lives.
