Description

EXPO (EX-incarcerated People Organizing) is an agency working to end mass incarceration, eliminate all forms of structural discrimination against formerly incarcerated people, and restore formerly incarcerated people to full participation in the life of our communities. Members of EXPO, typically formerly incarcerated people, provide support to each other and organize to create change in Wisconsin’s unjust penal system. EXPO is committed to dismantling all systems that support mass incarceration and excessive supervision as well as creating just systems with policies that build healthy families and safe communities. So far, EXPO has helped lead campaigns that have led policymakers to Expand funding for Wisconsin’s Treatment Alternatives and Diversion Program, reduce the use of solitary confinement in Wisconsin prisons, expand funding for Wisconsin’s transitional jobs program, and more. They also offer a week-long leadership training program that is designed with the exclusive goal of empowering formerly incarcerated people to build a powerful organization that can have a voice in the future of the criminal justice system. Ultimately, EXPO believes men and women with conviction and arrest records should be viewed as valued human beings, members of families, and assets to communities. Their main goal is to end mass incarceration and to implement a fair and equitable criminal legal system.
