Description
The Sixth Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office represents indigent criminal defendants in Chester, Fairfield and Lancaster counties. The Fairfield County Public Defender's Office is located in Winnsboro, S.C. With one Circuit Public Defender, one Deputy Public Defender, one Deputy Public Defender for Juvenile Cases and one Assistant Public Defender on staff, the Public Defenders in Fairfield County represent defendants in criminal court who are financially indigent. They also represent juveniles who have been charged with a crime in juvenile court and cannot afford to hire an attorney. To qualify for an appointed attorney, you must first go through a screening process where you complete a financial affidavit. If you are eligible, an attorney will be appointed to represent you. The South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense ensures that all individuals are provided with indigent defense services in South Carolina and provide the highest quality of representation to their clients.
