The Federal Public Defender for the District of Colorado is located in Denver, Colorado. The office is divided into two divisions- the Trial Unit and the Appellate Unit. With over 10 Public Defenders in the Trial Division and 10 Public Defender's in the Appellate Division, the Colorado Office represents individuals accused of a federal crime in the District of Colorado who are unable to afford counsel. The appellate division is based in Denver and represents clients from across the Tenth Circuit in their direct criminal appeals, and in certain post-conviction matters. The Federal Public Defender's Office is established under the Criminal Justice Act of 1964. The office is committed to eradication of discrimination and unconscious bias in the criminal legal system and is dedicated to promoting equitable treatment of their clients by giving voice to their identities, their cultures, and their life experiences. They also have branch offices in Cheyenne and Casper, Wyoming. Trial attorneys based out of our Denver, Cheyenne, and Casper offices are there for the clients from their first appearance in court to the conclusion of their district court case, working closely with investigators to develop the facts and appellate specialists on their Motions Team to address complex legal questions.
