The Federal Public Defender for the District of South Carolina's Greenville office is a branch of the public defender's office for the District of South Carolina. With one assistant federal defender in charge and three panel attorneys on staff, the Greenville office provides defense services to people who are financially unable to obtain adequate representation in federal criminal cases, appeals, and habeas corpus matters. The Federal Public Defender's office, along with a panel of private attorneys known as CJA panel attorneys, is appointed by the court and are charged with representing those who request counsel and are determined to be indigent. There is a Federal Public Defender's office and a group of panel attorneys for each of the district's four primary locations: Columbia, Charleston, Greenville and Florence.
