Description

The Federal Public Defender for the Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana's Shreveport Office is a branch office with two Assistant Federal Public Defenders. The Office of the Federal Public Defender, which also has staffed offices in Baton Rouge and Shreveport that operates under the authority of the Criminal Justice Act, to provide court-appointed defense services in federal criminal cases to individuals unable to afford counsel. The Assistant Federal Public Defenders perform legal research; draft motions, memoranda, sentencing memos, briefs, appeals and petitions for writs of certiorari; review and analysis of discovery; assist with all aspects of case preparation; assist in client communications; and perform any other case related duties, including court appearances and trials. The attorneys are experts in criminal defense practice and demonstrate commitment to the representation of indigent accused persons.
