Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Texas’s Capital Habeas Unit Office
Description
The Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Texas's Capital Habeas Unit Office is the main office located in Austin, Texas. With one supervisory assistant federal public defender and four panel attorneys on staff, the Capital Habeas Unit, the attorneys at this office represent death-sentenced prisoners in post-conviction proceedings in the Western District of Texas and other jurisdictions when appointed by the court, litigating in the federal district court, courts of appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Once a client completes all state court proceedings, he or she may challenge the constitutionality of the conviction or sentence in federal habeas corpus proceedings. Unless appointed by the court, this office cannot represent you in a habeas corpus case. They can, however, provide you with needed forms or documents from your file.
