The First Judicial District Office of Public Defender is located in Shreveport, LA. With a team of Public Defenders, attorneys and other part-time staff, the First Judicial District Office serve clients in Caddo Parish. The Shreveport office is the head office for the First Judicial Circuit, Public Defenders. The Louisiana Public Defender Board advocates for clients, support practitioners and protects the public by continually improving the services guaranteed by the constitutional right to counsel. The Louisiana Public Defender Board and the First Judicial Circuit Public Defender Office prevent wrongful convictions, protect due process and constitutional rights, increase public safety, promote fiscal responsibility, and support economic growth throughout Louisiana. LPDB also contracts with eight 501(c)3 non-profit organizations that provide appellate representation, capital representation at the trial level when a conflict exists in the district, capital post-conviction representation and representation of claims of innocence for persons serving life sentences in Louisiana.
