Florida Prison Education Project
Description
The Florida Prison Education Project partners with the University of Central Florida to provide quality education to incarcerated individuals. They believe that access to an accredited undergraduate education helps disrupt the cycle of incarceration and prepare individuals for permanent reentry into the community. According to Florida Prison Education Project, investing in educational opportunities for incarcerated individuals saves the state money while also assisting individuals with the skills they need to become contributing members of society after release. Participants of Florida Prison Education Project take part in a curriculum that stresses the importance of service to the community, research based learning, academic core and policy doctrine. This assists individuals with reentering the community as informed and educated members capable of addressing key communal concerns. All graduates of the program complete the Florida General Education Program, providing individuals with 45 credits which transfer to all public universities throughout the state. For more information about the program, incarcerated individuals can request assistance through the website or via corrections officers inside the facility.
