FOCUS Ministries
Description
Focus Ministries is a faith-based nonprofit organization serving incarcerated and newly released women in East Tennessee. They offer strategic programming inside correctional facilities and support after incarceration. The ministries' purpose is to empower women to break the generational cycles of addiction and incarceration leading to freedom. FOCUS Ministries' strategic program—Pathway to New Beginnings, helps justice-impacted women in three ways. Firstly, FOCUS teaches courses in county jails and state prisons in East Tennessee. The teaching includes classes targeting faith and life skill development, relapse prevention, and family strengthening. Upon release, a reentry program is offered to women. Women participate in a six-month residential program designed for therapeutic community, strategic case management, healthy support/supervision, long-term recovery assistance, and multi-generational mentoring opportunities. Next, reentry program students are assisted with finding jobs, developing a strong work ethic and budget management. Lastly, women are encouraged to reunite with families, make amends as necessary, and adopt parenting roles from a healthy perspective.
