Innocence Project of Texas

Innocence Project of Texas (IPTX) is a nonprofit human service organization that provides legal and investigation assistance to low-income Texas citizens who were convicted of crimes they did not commit. The project works to gain freedom for those innocent people and exonerate them. Innocence Project of Texas also advocates for the adoption of laws to reform the criminal justice system and prevent wrongful convictions. IPTX is dedicated to correcting past injustices, preventing future wrongful convictions and giving hope to people who feel that they are out of options. IPTX relies on community support to free the innocent, reform criminal justice practices and educate the public about wrongful convictions. 

Their core mission values are - to restore liberty that was unjustly taken, reconnect families torn apart by injustice, defend freedom in our democracy, promote accuracy and integrity in our criminal justice process, and prevent wrongful convictions from happening. Innocence Project of Texas only reviews cases that meet the following requirements -you must be claiming actual innocence, either no crime occurred or a crime did happen but you did not have a role in it, your conviction is a felony, your conviction took place in a Texas court, you have been convicted and have completed your direct appeals. IPTX is unable to assist with general requests for legal help, pending criminal cases where the defendant has not yet been convicted, requests for educational materials and any other legal matters that do not involve a claim of actual innocence
