Description
The Madison County Public Defender's Office is located in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Office of the Public Defender provides legal representation to any persons charged with criminal offenses where incarceration is a possibility and who cannot retain a private attorney. With Public Defenders, attorneys and other supporting staff working together, this office provides a fully competent, effective, and ethical defense to each client whose cause has been entrusted to the Office for representation. The Public Defender's Office strives to provide all mandated legal services effectively and efficiently and conduct that representation so that the county criminal justice system operates effectively, efficiently, and achieves justice for the citizens of Madison County. The main functions include providing attorney services, without fees, before any court within the County for persons held in custody and preparing and filing monthly reports to the County Board and Circuit Clerk on the services rendered.
