Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee was founded by the Massachusetts Legislature more than fifty years ago as an advocacy group. The primary mission of the committee is to ensure that all individuals requiring treatment for mental health issues or participating in programs that center mental health support receive due process and that their rights are protected. Individuals and families may request legal assistance directly through the MHLAC website using the form provided. The organization also operates the Family Law Project, a specialty program that serves parents with diagnosed mental disorders and psychiatric disabilities who are seeking to regain custody of their children or are at high risk of losing their children. Those who wish to request assistance through the Family Law Project should complete the specialized form offered on the organization website.
