Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop (MPWW)
Description
Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop centers literary community and a commitment to art inside Minnesota correctional facilities through a combination of high-quality creative writing courses and related workshops. Throughout incarceration and the reentry process, staff uplift writers, challenge internalized biases about individuals with criminal convictions, and emphasize a commitment to rehabilitation and restorative justice through artistic expression. Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop also aims to connect the divide between writing communities inside and outside of correctional facilities by developing platforms for their participants' work. Staff and volunteers believe strongly in the power of self expression as a source of healing and personal growth. Teaching incarcerated individuals how to process and articulate their experiences is an important step in promoting personal accountability, conflict resolution and mental wellness.
