NEKCA Community and Justice Program

Northeast Kingdom Community Action, or NEKCA, is a grass-roots organization addressing poverty through education, community collaborations, and community action. With four offices in Vermont, NEKCA provides various programs and services to individuals and families in need. The NEKCA Community Based Program supports a successful transition from incarceration to the community by providing housing search assistance, life skills assessments, training, budgeting, nutrition education, and tenancy skills class which may include some financial assistance. The Court Diversion program is an alternative to a traditional court process for juveniles and adults to resolve their cases through a restorative process. After successful completion, the charges are dismissed by the state, and their record can be expunged after two years. The Tamarack Program uses restorative processes and refers to area providers to help address the criminal behavior attribution to mental health and substance use issues for individuals aged 18 or older. Contact Northeast Kingdom Community Action directly for more information on their services.
