Oneida County Conviction Integrity Unit
Description
The Oneida County Conviction Integrity Unit is tasked with reviewing all claims of innocence for credibility and eligibility. The unit acts as an investigatory arm for the Oneida County District Attorney's office, evaluating petitions that make claims of innocence, other wrongful conviction or excessive sentencing. Whenever necessary, the unit provides written recommendation for further action, but only the District Attorney has the capacity to act on recommendations. In order to have a case reviewed by the Conviction Integrity Unit, the case must involve a currently incarcerated individual and a case not currently under consideration by the Appellate Court. Individuals must present strong and credible evidence related to their case, or demonstrate how technological advances allow for important testing that was not available at the time of the original conviction. For more information or to submit a case for review, individuals may contact the Conviction Integrity Unit directly or through a defense attorney.
