PHS Workforce Development Program
Description
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Workforce Development Program is designed to assist individuals who face barriers to employment in horticulture. PHS uses gardening, horticulture, and job development as opportunities to overcome barriers to socioeconomic equity. They do not accept any form of harassment, discrimination or oppressive behavior. The Workforce Development Program provides training to individuals exiting the Philadelphia Department of Prisons system. All training is paid and covers job skills related to horticulture, lawn and landscape maintenance, greenhouse upkeep and development, and woodworking and masonry. All graduates of the program receive extensive preparation that prepares them for full-time employment in the horticulture field, as well as courses in conflict resolution, wellness and vocational therapy. Individuals are eligible to receive case management, help with securing employment and strategic partnerships with area businesses. Individuals awaiting release or recently released from the Philadelphia Department of Prisons can contact PHS through their website or at one of their events for more information about available services and support.
