Description
The Office of Public Defender for Appalachian Judicial Circuit serves indigent criminal defendants in Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens counties. The Picken County Public Defender's Office is located in Jasper, Georgia. This office is governed by the Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC). The GPDC operates through six different divisions, all of which contribute to their mission of defending indigent Georgians accused of crimes. The mission of GPDC is to ensure that Georgia's indigent defense team has the guidance and support necessary to provide an effective and zealous client. The roles and responsibilities of Pickens County Public Defender's Office are to provide legal representation, consultation, and advice to clients, represent clients through criminal investigative proceedings, create a defense plan, conduct investigative legal research, and interview the necessary clients and witnesses, work closely with clients, discuss relevant information and strategies.
