Description

The Pike County Public Defender's Office is located in Milford, Pennsylvania. The Public Defender and Assistant Public Defenders are attorneys at law admitted to practice before the Supreme and Superior Courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Pike County Public Defender must represent any person whose indigency prevents them from obtaining counsel for the proceedings like juvenile delinquency proceedings, critical pretrial identification proceedings, state habeas corpus proceedings, Common Pleas Court Trials, pretrial motions through post-trial motions, post-conviction proceedings at both the trial and appellate levels, criminal extradition proceedings, mental health proceedings, probation and parole proceedings, including revocation and any other situation where representation is constitutionally required. The right to counsel guaranteed to every American citizen accused of a crime is embodied in the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution and made applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. An integral component of the right to counsel is the right to court-appointed counsel for those unable to hire an attorney.
