Description

The Pima County Conviction and Sentencing Integrity Unit is a subdivision of the Pima County District Attorney's office. The mission of the unit is to investigate all credible claims of innocence filed with the court. In order to have a case investigated by the Conviction and Sentencing Integrity Unit, individuals must demonstrate that the case was tried and concluded in Pima County Superior Court, and that the claim of innocence is based on new evidence not considered during the original trial. The unit will also investigate claims of innocence and wrongful conviction where individuals demonstrate how new technologies can be used to process evidence previously presented in court. All individuals who request review must be currently incarcerated their case must not be under appellate review. Those who meet the eligibility requirements are entitled to a full and unbiased review of case files and evidence. Whenever necessary, the unit coordinates with the District Attorney to offer advice regarding exoneration, new trial or the revision of excessive sentencing.
