Rock Island County Conviction Integrity/Case Review Unit

Rock Island County Conviction Integrity/Case Review Unit

Description

The Rock Island County Conviction Integrity/Case Review Unit is a subdivision of the District Attorney's office that investigates claims of innocence. Staff are committed to maintaining the integrity of the District Attorney's office by conducting complete and thorough investigations into all credible claims of innocence filed with the court. The Conviction Integrity/Case Review Unit is only able to consider cases heard by the Rock Island County Superior Court related to currently incarcerated individuals. Petitions must present new and relevant evidence to support claims of innocence or illustrate how technological advancements allow for more thorough testing of existing evidence. Those cases that show strong evidence are referred to the District Attorney for review and, when necessary, further action within the court system. Though the primary focus of the Conviction Integrity/Case Review Unit is investigating claims of innocence, they may also consider petitions that illustrate evidence of other wrongful conviction or excessive sentencing as a result of conviction.
