Description

The Sacramento County Public Defender's Office provides quality legal representation and/or advice to any individual financially unable to employ counsel in adult criminal, juvenile delinquency, mental conservatorship, appropriate family law, and probate cases. The Office of the Public Defender serves as the Guardian of Due Process, Champion of Constitutional Rights, Sentinel who keeps the power of the state over the individual in check, Protector of life and liberty and Advocate for the poor. The Office of the Public Defender provides indigent defendants their constitutionally guaranteed right to representation when in a court of law, defends persons accused of felonious crimes, including homicide and death penalty cases, represents clients in developmentally disabled and conservatorship cases, represents juveniles in delinquency cases, defends persons charged with misdemeanor offenses, provides program support in the form of legal research, investigative services, and administration and Proposition 47. They do not provide help with cases other then criminal and traffic ticket representation. The Public Defender's Office has seven ​divisions-Juvenile, Misdemeanor, Felony, Research,LPS/Conservatorship, Investigations and State Prison.
