Southwest Iowa Regional Planning Commission’s Homes for Iowa

Southwest Iowa Regional Planning Commission’s Homes for Iowa

Description

Homes for Iowa is a community based organization dedicated to eliminating homelessness while providing trade job opportunities. The mission of Homes for Iowa is to reduce mass incarceration and help address Iowa’s housing shortage. The organization hopes to do this by training justice involved men in various building trades while constructing single family homes across Iowa. These combined efforts will help to ensure that formerly incarcerated men have the skills necessary to work sustainably and permanently in the community, reducing recidivism and providing a concrete pathway to independent living. Additionally, the organization will construct affordable housing options for single families who may otherwise lack the means or opportunity to secure safe, permanent housing. Homes for Iowa understands the unique correlation between housing insecurity and incarceration, so they focus on addressing both issues with one simple strategy.
