The Sweetwater County Public Defender's Office is located in Rock Springs, WY. With one Supervising Attorney and other legal support staff, this Public Defender's office's mission is to provide effective assistance of counsel to indigent adults and juveniles accused of a crime in Sweetwater County. The roles and responsibilities of the Public Defender's office are to provide legal representation, consultation, and advice to clients, represent clients through criminal investigative proceedings, create a defense plan, conduct investigative legal research, interview the necessary clients and witnesses, work closely with clients, discuss relevant information and strategies. An individual must apply for a public defender by completing a detailed financial statement and agreeing to provide documentation concerning income, assets, and debts for the person and the person’s spouse if any. This information generally is provided to a court employee who reviews the financial information and makes a recommendation to the judge on whether or not the person is eligible for government-paid counsel.
