Tennessee DOC Rehabilitative Services
Description
The Tennessee Department of Correction offers rehabilitative services to provide effective community supervision and to improve public safety. The rehabilitative services include medical, behavioral health, substance use treatment, education, vocational training, religious and volunteer services, correctional counseling, employment and assistance. Located at the Northwest Correctional Complex (NWCX), DOC's Juvenile Program is a cognitive behavioral program designed for juveniles 16 and 17 years of age. The program helps them recognize and understand harmful behaviors and faulty thinking patterns. Additionally, the Young Adult Offender Program (YAOP) is a modified Therapeutic Community serving individuals between the ages of 18 and 26. It is currently offered at the Northwest Correctional Complex and the Turney Center Industrial Complex. The program takes about 18 to 24 months to complete. It consists of three phases designed to assist young incarcerated people in developing pro-social life skills through evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy. The program utilizes a positive peer culture approach. Residential counseling assistants mentor participants.
