The Bail Project

The Bail Project

Description

The Bail Project is a nationwide organization working to end the use of cash bail systems in state and federal justice systems. Staff within the organization understand that the majority of individuals inside correctional facilities each day are awaiting trial, with many spending months or even years behind bars without being convicted of a crime. They believe that one of the most important paths to a more equitable criminal justice system is to eradicate cash bail and end the process of monetizing freedom. The Bail Project works to educate the community and policy makers about the many ways that cash bail systems disproportionately affect people of color and those living in poverty. They have several campaigns designed to fundamentally change the bail system across the country, including: After Cash Bail, BAIL OUT the SOUTH, Bail X Fund, and Take Action.
