The MADE Institute
Description
MADE Institute is a community based organization dedicated to serving at risk youth and formerly incarcerated individuals. Their mission is to apply sound research and present evidence based solutions that address violence prevention and prepare citizens for a place in the workforce. Staff hope to divert at risk youth before they enter the justice system, and to provide quality support for individuals who are returning to the community after incarceration. One of their initiatives is the development and distribution of reentry care packages to help ease the difficulties that individuals face in the days after leaving correctional facilities. These care packages offer basic amenities and needs, from a new toothbrush and toothpaste to pillows and a wallet. Staff and volunteers hope that these simple care packages will help justice involved individuals navigate the first days and weeks of their release more easily, giving them space to focus their energy on more important issues like securing housing and employment.
