Through These Doors – Incarcerated Women’s Program

Through These Doors Incarcerated Women's Program is a domestic violence resource center providing a full array of services to people experiencing domestic abuse and related issues. Incarcerated Women's Program's mission is dedicated towards creating innovative responses, mobilizing the community, promoting safety and challenging oppression and systems of violence for formerly incarcerated women. They recognize the many forms of trauma experienced by individuals and communities as they respond with empathy, compassion, and respect for self-determination. Incarcerated Women's Program envisions a world where all people are safe, respected and supported in their relationships and communities, where everyone’s basic needs are met. Volunteers and staff work directly with survivors of domestic violence in Maine correctional facilities to provide programming that helps disrupt the cycle of abuse and prevent future incarceration. They have also developed a virtual magazine available to incarcerated women in Maine Correctional Center to continue providing support while visitation is limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
