Section Title

University of Iowa Federal Criminal Defense Clinic

The Clinical Law Program is part of the College of Law serving justice involved individuals in the community. In the Law Clinic at Iowa Law, students serve as attorneys, not interns. They learn essential skills that span across practice areas, from client interviewing and case theory development to cultural understanding and grit. Students hold primary responsibility for the representation of approved clients at all stages in the justice process and learn to implement and trust their legal instincts. The Law Clinic operates like a single law firm with six distinct practice groups: Federal Criminal Defense, Civil & Employment Litigation, Estate Planning, Law & Policy in Action, Immigration, and the Community Empowerment Law Project. The Legal Clinic is different from similar programs in that students are able to focus on a single area of law or explore different interests by serving in two practice groups.
