Section Title

University of the District of Columbia Criminal Law Clinic

The Criminal Law Clinic housed at the University of the District of Columbia School of Law offers concrete opportunities for law students to work with clients. The program is predicated on the idea that students learn best through praxis, so all students have the opportunity to earn intensive experience with indigent criminal defense and prisoner advocacy. Students represent clients directly, participate in lectures and legal workshops, complete simulation exercises and undergo individual meetings with a professor who supervises legal work. The Criminal Law Clinic is committed to ending the cycle of mass incarceration and offering more equitable access to justice for all community members. Some of the pretrial charges that students encounter include assault, threats, drug possession, theft, unlawful entry, vandalism, and minor weapons charges. Students act as "first chair" representation, while professors offer supervising counsel. For more information about the program or to request representation, individuals should contact the organization directly using the information provided on this page.
