The Utah County Public Defender's Association is located in Provo, UT. It helps indigent people fight for justice. Their office includes Public Defenders, Staff Attorneys and other support staff responsible for representing those individuals who have been accused of a crime that carries the potential for jail or prison time and cannot afford to hire a private counsel. The roles and responsibilities of the Utah County Public Defender's Office are to provide legal representation, consultation, and advice to clients, represent clients through criminal investigative proceedings, create a defense plan, conduct legal investigative research, and interview the necessary clients and witnesses, work closely with clients, discuss relevant information and strategies. Individuals determined to be eligible for court-appointed counsel do not have the right to choose who their attorney will be. However, they do have the right to have competent legal representation.
