Warren County, PA Public Defender’s Office
The Warren County, PA Public Defender's Office is responsible for furnishing legal counsel to any person who, for lack of sufficient funds, is unable to obtain legal counsel in any situation where representation is constitutionally guaranteed. With one Public Defender, one Assistant Public Defender, and other supporting staff, the office provides services that include capital crimes, misdemeanor and felony offenses, summary offenses that carry a mandatory sentence of incarceration and commitment proceedings under the Mental Health Procedures Act. In Warren County, eligibility for public defender services is based on federal poverty guidelines. In addition, income, family financial responsibilities and the nature of the charges are all considered in determining qualification for legal representation by the public defender. Public Defenders have an ethical obligation to work for the best possible resolution of the case for the client. Therefore, all dealings between a court-appointed attorney and the client are confidential. Attorneys who provide public defense representation are not only subject to the Pennsylvania State Bar's ethical requirements that govern all lawyers but must also meet qualification standards that have been established for public defense representation.
