Washtenaw County, MI Public Defender’s Office
The Michigan Public Defender's Office of Washtenaw County is located in Ann Arbor, MI. They have one Chief Public Defender, one Senior Assistant Public Defender, two First Assistant Public Defenders, and nine Assistant Public Defenders augmented by many volunteer student lawyers, investigators and social workers. They handle all criminal, juvenile and special civil law appointments and provide a wide array of services related to criminal cases. Their mission is to provide constitutionally mandated competent, effective and ethical legal representation to people who cannot afford private counsel where life or liberty issues are at stake. The office is further organized into divisions that provide legal representations for felony, misdemeanors and juvenile cases, representing the vast majority of criminal defendants throughout the county in all state and local criminal matters, including probation violations, extradition, and establishment paternity. In addition, the office represents contempt of court matters, including child support and personal protection order violations.
