Windsor County Public Defender’s Office, VT

The Windsor County Public Defender's Office is located in White River Junction, Vermont. This office has Public Defenders, attorneys and other supporting staff who provide a fully competent, effective, and ethical defense to each client whose cause has been entrusted to the office for representation. There are 14 public defense field offices located throughout the state. Seven of these offices are staff offices. Seven of these offices are public defense contract offices, that is, private law firms that have entered into a contract with the Defender General to provide primary public defense services. For example, one law firm has a small contract in Addison County to represent parties in juvenile proceedings. In addition, two caseload relief contractors assist staff offices statewide. These legal services are available to indigent defendants charged with crimes with the possibility of jail, to parties in juvenile proceedings in Family Court, in appellate cases before the Vermont Supreme Court and in post-conviction relief cases.
