Lexington County, SC Public Defender’s Office

The 11th Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office represents indigent criminal defendants in Edgefield, Saluda, McCormick and Lexington counties. The Lexington County Public Defender's Office has one Circuit Public Defender, one Deputy Public Defender, two Senior Assistant Public Defenders, and 14 Assistant Public Defenders on staff. The Public Defenders in Lexington County represent defendants in criminal court who are financially indigent. However, the Public Defenders do not represent persons who are in prison and seeking release on parole. Public Defenders also do not represent persons on parole who have been charged with a parole violation. To qualify for an appointed attorney, you must first go through a screening process where you complete a financial affidavit. If you are eligible, an attorney will be appointed to represent you. The South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense ensures that all individuals are provided with indigent defense services in South Carolina and provide the highest quality of representation to their clients.
