Anne Arundel County Conviction Integrity Unit

The Anne Arundel County Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) is a specialized unit under the Office of the State's Attorney. The CIU is responsible for investigating claims of innocence by a convicted defendant. It is located in Annapolis, Maryland, and its mission is to protect the community while ensuring a fair justice system. They handle cases of conviction in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. The five criteria that a defendant must meet before getting their case reviewed by the CIU are as follows, the claim of actual innocence must be predicated on a factual matter, not a purely legal issue, and the claimant must proffer new evidence of actual innocence capable of being investigated and potentially substantiated, case records needed for re-investigation of the claim must exist and be available for review, the claim must not be frivolous, and lastly, the claimant must agree to cooperate fully with the unit. If you want more information on who is eligible for review by the CIU, please contact them directly. Please click here to learn more about what a Conviction Integrity Unit is.
