Latin American Youth Center

The Latin American Youth Center was established in the late 1960s to serve low income youth in the Washington DC area. Today, the organization is recognized as one of the leading initiatives in supporting youth who experience generational or chronic poverty. Their mission is to empower young people to transition into adulthood well-equipped for stable, self-sufficient living. The Latin American Youth Center offers culturally responsive programs that help fill gaps and address needs in the social, academic and career sectors. Nationwide, the organization offers more than fifty distinct programs to meet the needs of every youth. Academic programs focus on tutoring, homework assistance, after school programs, college preparation and retention. Job readiness programs help youth develop the necessary skills to enter the workforce as adults. Safe housing initiatives provide residential services for young people without homes, as well as specialized programs for LGBTQ+ youth. For more information, contact the organization directly.
