Living Beyond the Bars

Living Beyond the Bars is an Iowa-based non-profit organization that provides reintegration assistance and other support services to the families and friends of incarcerated individuals. Living Beyond the Bars is not part of the Iowa Department of Corrections is not a faith-based organization, and does not have therapists or other licensed staff. Support services and resources are offered by experienced prison volunteers, and formerly incarcerated individuals and their family members.Re-entry assistance is offered by the way of workshops and a state-wide reentry resource guide - First Stop After Prison. Living Beyond the Bars knows that every situation is different, so if they cannot provide support for a specific challenge of reentering society, they connect incarcerated individuals with other organizations able to help. Reentry workshops are also held at Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility and Iowa Medical Classification Center to help incarcerated individuals develop their reentry plan.
