Eureka County has contracted with private counsel to provide public defender services in Ely, Nevada. They plan to administer those accused of a crime or otherwise eligible for appointed counsel services. With several attorneys and supporting staff, this office provides quality representation to indigent defendants charged with crimes in Eureka County. The objective of Eureka County's Indigent Defense Plan is to achieve equality before the law for all persons. The Plan is to be administered so that those accused of a crime, or otherwise eligible for appointed counsel services, will not be deprived because they are financially unable to pay for adequate representation necessary for their defense. Therefore, Eureka County contracts with a private attorney to act as the Eureka County Public Defender. The Eureka County Public Defender is appointed to all indigent defense cases unless the Office cannot take the case. Attorneys who provide public defense representation are not only subject to the Nevada State Bar's ethical requirements that govern all lawyers but must also meet qualification standards that have been established for public defense representation.
