Section Title

Cuyahoga County Conviction Integrity Unit

The Conviction Integrity Unit is a branch of the Cuyahoga County District Attorney's office that investigates claims of innocence for credibility. The function of the Conviction Integrity Unit is to serve the Cuyahoga County District Attorney's office as a dedicated investigatory arm for formal claims of wrongful conviction. They first look into the truth of claims of injustice by completing a thorough inquiry for all claims wherein individuals offer valid evidence to back their claims of innocence, establish proof that they were wrongfully convicted or otherwise prove examples of injustice while interacting with the Cuyahoga County justice system. Staff in the office investigate the validity of claims filed with the court and establish whether or not plea bargaining had an impact on the outcome of the case. Those claims of innocence that are confirmed through investigation may result in a recommendation that the District Attorney take on the case to identify whether or not evidence of injustice merits further action.
