Madison County Alabama Office of Alternative Sentencing

The Office of Alternative Sentencing & Release in Madison County provides the Courts of the 23rd Judicial Circuit with various alternative sanctions imposed in the disposition of cases in the Circuit and District Court of Madison County. These programs provide alternatives to incarceration based on the nature and severity of offenses and the degrees of supervision required for offenders. They also offer a pretrial release program on personal recognizance or unsecured appearance bonds mental health pretrial release program for detainees that exhibit or have been diagnosed as mentally ill. This includes providing financial resources and addressing appropriate care to ensure the community's safety. The office also offers a community corrections program that is coordinated with the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) to allow incarcerated individuals, as well as those facing incarceration upon conviction, to return/remain at an approved home plan within Madison County while serving the remainder or the entirety of a period of incarceration. These individuals remain individuals of the ADOC, are required to wear and pay for electronic monitoring equipment, maintain approved employment, and needed to participate in rehabilitative options.
