Mifflin County, PA Public Defender’s Office

The Mifflin County Public Defender’s Office in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, represents individuals lacking sufficient funds to afford private counsel and are charged with either misdemeanors or felonies. With one Public Defender, one Paralegal and other supporting staff, the office has an ethical responsibility to work for the best possible resolution of the case for their client. All dealings between a court-appointed attorney and the client are confidential. Attorneys who provide public defense representation are not only subject to the Pennsylvania State Bar’s ethical requirements that govern all lawyers but must also meet qualification standards that have been established for public defense representation. The Public Defender is also appointed to represent individuals charged with summary offenses who face incarceration and juveniles who are accused of offenses under the crimes code. In addition, this office represents patients at the Lewistown Hospital who are committed to mental care and subject to the Mental Health Act.
