Washington State Correctional Industries

The Washington State Correctional Industries, or CI, is a public service agency designed to provide work experiences and training to incarcerated people as they produce high-quality, competitively priced products. Correctional Industries play an important role in the transition to society. At CI, the Braille Services Team is a collaborative partnership between the Washington State School for the Blind/Ogden Resource Center, Correctional Industries and the Washington Corrections Center for Women. The program is designed to help address a national shortage of braille materials and provide educational and job training opportunities for incarcerated women. In addition to the on-the-job training, CI organizes and conducts Mock Interview experiences at designated institutions annually. Moreover, to enhance soft skills, CI offers a 20-hour class called "Makin It Work." The class is designed to help men and women understand what employers are looking for and develop the necessary thinking to help ensure a successful transition into the workforce in the community. CI also offers employability and technical skills through DOC's Education Program, which contracts with the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.
