The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office Conviction Integrity and Expungement Unit (CIEU) is a team committed to correcting and preventing wrongful convictions. Its mission is to ensure that people who have committed a crime and have been rehabilitated do not face unjustified barriers to employment, housing, or educational prospects as a result of an old criminal record. In addition, the CIEU investigates claims of innocence to see if there is new evidence that supports those claims. It then recommends if anything should be done. Additional services by the CIEU include working with the Expungement Committee partners and helping eligible people "clear" their old criminal records from Washtenaw County.
