Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Conviction Integrity Bureau

Description

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office Conviction Integrity Bureau (CIB) is a unit that investigates claims of innocence. Their goal is to remedy identified wrongful convictions and provide proactive support and recommendations to the Office to prevent wrongful convictions. Their mission is to strive to achieve justice in each case and to ensure that they do everything possible to correct any past injustices. You must meet five criteria before your case can be investigated for your claim of innocence: First, the claim of actual innocence must be predicated on a factual matter, not a purely legal issue. Secondly, the claimant must present new evidence of actual innocence capable of being investigated and potentially substantiated; third, case records needed for re-investigation of the claim must exist and be available for review; fourth, the claim must not be frivolous; and lastly, the claimant must agree to cooperate fully with the unit. For more information on who is eligible, contact them directly. Please click here to learn more about what a Conviction Integrity Unit is.
