Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, Conviction Review Unit

Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, Conviction Review Unit

Description

The Summit County Prosecutor's Office Conviction Review Unit (CRU) conducts reviews of people who were wrongfully convicted in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas. The goal of the Conviction Review Unit is to identify areas where improvements are needed to avoid future wrongful convictions. The CRU will only look into your claim if you meet the following requirements: the convicted person must still be in prison or incarcerated. In addition, the claim of actual innocence must be based on facts. Secondly, the claimant must present new evidence of actual innocence that can be investigated and potentially corroborated; thirdly, case records needed for re-investigation of the claim must exist and be available, and lastly, the claim must not be frivolous. If counsel represents an applicant, the request for review must be submitted by counsel, and all communication with the CRU will be through the attorney. You may access the form to request a review on their website and mail it to their address. Please click here to learn more about what a Conviction Integrity Unit is.
