Travis County District Attorney’s Office, Conviction Integrity Unit

Travis County District Attorney’s Office, Conviction Integrity Unit

Description

The Travis County District Attorney's Office Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) has a mission to aggressively seek out and pursue innocence and ensure that no person who is innocent or entitled to a new trial due to a wrongful conviction is forgotten in prison. The Travis County District Attorney’s CIU investigates prior convictions to ensure that no innocent person convicted in the county remains in prison. A convicted person must meet five criteria before their case can be investigated for a claim of innocence: First, the claim of actual innocence must be predicated on a factual matter, not a purely legal issue. Secondly, the claimant must present new evidence of actual innocence capable of being investigated and potentially substantiated; third, case records needed for re-investigation of the claim must exist and be available for review; fourth, the claim must not be frivolous; and lastly, the claimant must agree to cooperate fully with the unit. To request a review by the CIU please access the intake forms on their website. For more information, please contact them directly.
