Fresh Start Ministries at Cedar Rapids helps incarcerated or formerly incarcerated people find a new life. They work on instilling hope and rebuilding lives in Iowa. Fresh Start Ministries' mission is to provide hope and basic needs, through Christ's love and truth, to incarcerated people of all faiths, during and after incarceration. They offer services like Adult Jail Ministry, Jail Volunteer Program, Adult Mentoring Program and Juvenile Detention Center Ministry. The Adult Jail Ministry program includes visits to any interested individual wanting to talk to the Jail Minister or to the many jail volunteers who visit daily. These visits may include a kind word, a prayer, a request for reading materials, or simply talking. Adult Jail Ministry's mission is to set captives free through the transformative power of Jesus Christ. The Jail Ministry Volunteer Program goes hand in hand with the Adult Jail Ministry. Specially trained and compassionate volunteers go into the jail to visit and provide bible study to incarcerated people. The Adult Mentoring Program (AMP) is a community-based program that helps people re-establish their lives for newly released detainees. Finally, fresh Start Ministries provides a Youth Minister to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center to support and strengthen juvenile justice reform.
