Description
The Douglas County Legal Aid Society provides free legal assistance to residents in the Douglas County, Kansas area. Douglas County Legal Aid Society is staffed by KU Law students who are supervised by professors in the University of Kansas School of Law. Cases handled include criminal record expungement, name changes, court-appointed juvenile and criminal defense, and related matters. Applicants must have cases pending in Douglas County at Lawrence Municipal Court or Douglas County District Court and meet case selection and financial guidelines to be considered for eligible for legal aid services. While legal services are free, filing fees and court costs are the client’s responsibility. Intake procedure is done via telephone and in-person by appointment only Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. DCLAS receives funding support from the KU School of Law, Rice Foundation, Kansas Bar Foundation, the City of Lawrence and Douglas County.
