Maine Office of Behavioral Health Justice System Related Services
The Maine Office of Behavioral Health offers a number of services for justice impacted individuals throughout the state. Their mission is to diagnosis and/or treat any mental health disorders that may contribute to a cycle of incarceration. The office offers services to individuals with behavioral health or substance abuse disorders who are returning to the community after incarceration, as well as those struggling to remain in the community permanently. The first point of intervention are intensive case managers. These works assist individuals as they navigate challenging transitions from corrections facilities, group homes and treatment centers. Case managers act as a line of defense to prevent reoffense, and also work to connect participants with social service organizations in the community who may of assistance. The office also helps with medication assisted treatment inside correctional facilities to ensure that all incarcerated individuals have access to the medical treatment they require to function.
